The World Equestrian Games End in Lexington, Honoring Athletes & Volunteers

The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games were ushered out Sunday afternoon in a ceremony that honored two groups who made the Games happen: the athletes, who put on 16 days of thrilling equestrian sport, and the 6,000 volunteers who did nearly everything else with good cheer. They streamed into Rolex Stadium waving flags and multicolored pompons, celebrating the end of a mostly successful event.

"Kentucky faced big challenges, including some who said it could not be done," said Gov. Steve Beshear. "Well, not only did we do it, but I know the competitors and spectators alike will confirm that the ... Games have been one of the best World Games put on anywhere." [source: kentucky.com]
